Reshma Begum, a Zardozi craftswoman from the historic Chowk region of Lucknow, has received the complex skill of hand-embroidery from her forebears. Even with her remarkable talent, she encountered ongoing difficulties in selling her creations, as middlemen claimed the majority of her earned income.
Through Lucknow's Galliyans, Reshma had the chance to display her work at local artisan fairs, establishing direct connections with customers who valued the beauty of her creations. Moreover, she received training in digital marketing, acquiring skills to advertise her work on social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook.
Her income increased twofold as she expanded her customer base, offering her not just financial security but also the assurance to continue creating. Reshma also gained from the FLEAT program, which equipped her with skills in financial management and legal understanding. Currently, her Zardozi designs are renowned throughout the city, and her motivating journey inspires other women artisans to maintain and showcase their skills globally.
